Fillings

At Nuvo Dental, we offer fillings as a common dental treatment to repair and restore damaged teeth affected by cavities.

What is a cavity?

A cavity refers to a hole that develops in a tooth due to decay or sometimes as a result of an injury.

How can I determine if I need a tooth filling?

In most cases, our dental team at Nuvo Dental can detect a cavity during a routine check-up, often without the patient experiencing any noticeable symptoms. We recommend a tooth filling to prevent the cavity from worsening and causing pain. However, if you are experiencing toothache, pain while chewing or biting down, or increased sensitivity, it may indicate that the cavity is progressing and approaching the nerve of the tooth.

What materials are used for fillings?

Traditionally, metal amalgam has been widely used as a dental filling material due to its durability. It is still commonly used today.

At Nuvo Dental, we also offer white fillings as a cosmetic alternative. These fillings are made of a composite material that matches the natural colour of your teeth, making them virtually invisible. Thanks to advancements in materials and dental techniques, white fillings are now equally durable and long-lasting compared to traditional amalgam fillings.

What does the treatment involve?

The process of receiving a cavity filling typically takes one appointment, lasting approximately an hour. To ensure your comfort throughout the procedure, our clinician may administer a local anaesthetic to numb the treated area.

First, we remove the decayed portion of the tooth, thoroughly clean the area, and then apply the filling material. After the amalgam or composite filling is placed, it is allowed to set, and you will be able to leave our practice with a fully restored tooth.

By choosing Nuvo Dental for your fillings, you can expect effective cavity treatment and tooth restoration, whether you opt for traditional amalgam fillings or a cosmetic composite filling.
